YouTube Gaming vs Twitch

So…It has been almost a month since YouTube Gaming has been live and it appears to be getting pretty good reviews. I have some links at the bottom of the post that list out some recent articles on the platform.

Now that Twitch, Azubu, and Hitbox have a legitimate contender on the block, what are streamers going to do; more importantly which gaming platforms will they choose? Good question.

Actually it will be very interesting to see how non-partnered streamers with huge followings on Twitch figure out an effective way to co-exist and maintain presence on both, if not many streaming platforms. With a shiny new toy on the shelf, users will want to try it out, but really can’t afford to alienate their already existing audience that they have engaged with while building their community. We at JOICASTER believe we have the solution. We developed JOICASTER to enable a live streaming broadcaster with a platform to stream their live content pretty much anywhere; yes everywhere. More about that in a bit as I wanted to point out some of the immediate features of YouTube Live/Gaming that currently appear to outweigh Twitch in my opinion:

  1. live transcoding — this is huge in my book. This is what makes a user on a crappy 3G connection be able to enjoy a live stream in the same manner as a user at home on a high speed connection.
  2. dvr — if your favorite stream already started, you now have the option to start the stream over from the beginning to catch up on what you have missed.
  3. stability — by leveraging the existing massive YouTube/Google infrastructure it is safe to assume that your stream will be seen by lots of eyeballs.
  4. compatibility — YouTube pretty much has some form of presence on phones, connected devices, and gaming consoles. Once your content is in the system it can been seen by the masses.

So…back to the big decision that a live gamer needs to make; which one to choose. Use JOICASTER and make that decision a no brainer. Send one HD stream to JOICASTER and easily pick which platforms you want to stream too; plain and simple. By leveraging this workflow, you can stream to Twitch and YouTube at the same time…Crazy I know. In fact you can stream live to all the game centric streaming platforms (Hitbox, Azubu, Beam) simultaneously. Maximum exposure and discoverability is now in full effect!!
